Cabbage Soup

  • 1 head of cabbage
  • 1 C chopped carrots
  • 3 ham shanks
  • 3 cloves garlic, minced
  • 2 large sweet onion, diced
  • 1 Tbsp olive oil
  • 12 C water
  • 1 Tbsp French Pantry Roasted Garlic and Chive Herb Blend
  • 1 Tsp black pepper
  • ¼ Tsp paprika


1. Cut cabbage in half and quarter each halve. Wash and drain cabbage, set aside. In a medium-sized pot, sauté garlic and ONE chopped onion in olive oil over medium-high heat until onion is translucent in color.

2. Add French Pantry seasoning. Turn heat to high, add water and ham shanks*. Bring water to a boil. Stir in carrots. Boil for one hour, uncovered. After one hour, turn heat to medium-high and stir in cut cabbage.

3. Allow to cook for approximately 1 additional hour. While cooking, separately sauté additional onion with paprika. When cabbage is cooked to desired texture, mix in sautéed onion with paprika. Add pepper to taste. Serve.

*Meat can be served on or off the bone, per preference
