Greek Pastitsio

Recipe by This recipe has a very unique taste with our new Spice for Life Cinnamon. Delicious!


  • 2 1/2 cups penne pasta, uncooked
  • 2 tablespoons butter, melted
  • 2 cup Parmesan cheese, grated and divided
  • 1 lb ground lamb
  • 1 small onion, chopped
  • 2 garlic cloves, minced
  • 15 oz tomato sauce
  • 1/2 teaspoon Bolivian Rose Sea Salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon Spice For Life Cinnamon
  • 1 egg
  • Bechamel Sauce:
  • 1/2 cup butter, cubed
  • 2/3 cup flour
  • 1/2 teaspoon Bolivian Rose Sea Salt
  • 1/4 teaspoon pepper
  • 4 cups 2% milk
  • 2 large eggs


1. Cook pasta according to package and drain. Place in Medium Round Mold a top Perforated Baking Sheet and toss with 2 tablespoons butter. Whisk together 1 cup Parmesan cheese and 1 egg. Add to pasta.

2. Preheat oven to 350 degrees F. In fry pan, cook ground lamb and onion over medium heat for 10 minutes or until beef is not longer pink. Drain. Add garlic and cook for 2 minutes longer. Stir in tomato sauce, salt and cinnamon. Heat through then spoon over pasta. Sprinkle 1/2 cup shredded Parmesan cheese over meat.

3. In a large saucepan, melt 1/2 cup butter then stir in flour, 1/2 teaspoon salt, 1/4 teaspoon pepper until smooth. Gradually add milk and bring to a soft boil. Cook and stir for 2 more minutes until thickened.

4. In a small bowl, whisk a small amount of sauce with 2 eggs. Add to saucepan, whisking constantly. Bring to a boil and stir for 2 minutes then pour over beef mixture and pasta.

5. Bake for 45-55 minutes or until top is golden brown. Remove from oven and let cool 10-15 minutes before unmolding.
